TRIP ITINERARY
Rafting in the Urubamba River & Overnight at Cusipata River Lodge
Your adventure begins at 8:30 AM, when we pick you up from your hotel in Cusco. Leaving the city behind, we travel for about an hour and a half until reaching Cusipata River Lodge, a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature. Here, you will meet your professional rafting guides, receive your equipment, and enjoy a detailed safety briefing to prepare you for the river ahead.
Once ready, we continue to Chuqui, our rafting starting point. The Urubamba River welcomes us with two unforgettable hours of adrenaline as we navigate Class III and III+ rapids—exciting enough for adventure lovers, yet safe and manageable with our expert team. Between the rapids, calmer stretches allow you to take in the scenery and enjoy the crisp Andean air.
After completing the route, we return to the lodge, where a delicious lunch is waiting. You can then relax in the lodge’s soothing sauna, letting the warmth ease your muscles after the morning’s adventure.
But the excitement doesn’t end here. The lodge features a secure, two-cable zipline crossing over the Urubamba River—an exhilarating experience that gives you a bird’s-eye view of the landscape. As the day winds down, we gather around a bonfire under the stars, enjoying the peaceful sound of the river and the company of your fellow travelers.
When night falls, you’ll settle into your room at Cusipata River Lodge, where the gentle flow of the Urubamba River will lull you into a restful sleep.
Trekking to Waqrapukara
After breakfast at the lodge, our vehicle takes you on a scenic journey through the Acomayo region, passing rolling hills, small communities, and dramatic Andean terrain. We arrive at Santa Lucía, the trailhead for the hike to Waqrapukara.
The trek leads us through landscapes rich with native flora and fauna, impressive rock formations, and panoramic views that stretch across the valleys. Eventually, the imposing silhouette of Waqrapukara—the “Horned Fortress”—emerges, standing proudly atop a natural platform.
With our professional guide, you will explore this extraordinary archaeological site, visiting remarkable points of interest such as:
- Intipunku, the Sun Gate
- The Main Square
- Ancient watchtowers
- Impressive agricultural terraces
- The ceremonial area dedicated to Wiracocha
- And detailed rock paintings depicting llamas, symbols of the Andean world
After taking in the history and energy of this sacred site, we retrace our steps back to Santa Lucía, where a hearty lunch awaits. Finally, we begin the return journey to Cusco, arriving in the late afternoon and concluding a two-day adventure filled with excitement, culture, and breathtaking Andean landscapes.
