
Colombia is located on the North-western endpoint of South America and shares its border with Panama, Venezuela, Brazil, Peru and Ecuador. Its extension is1.141.748 square kilometres and is the forth largest country in South America after Brazil, Argentina and Peru. It has 2,900 kilometres of coastline, of which 1.600 border on the Caribbean Sea and 1,300 on the Pacific Ocean. Besides the continental land, Colombia has several islands, out of which stand the archipelago of San Andrés and Providencia in the Caribbean Sea, and Gorgonilla and Malpelo in the Pacific.
Although most of the country lies in the Torrid Area, there is a variety of climates according to altitude. Frequent light showers are expected on the high lands. However, there are two dry seasons: from December to March and from June to September.
