TIWANAKU RUINS (5D/4N)
The western parts (Andean region) of what is today Bolivia formed part of the Lake Titicaca) and in the valleys of the Cordillera Oriental. The Spaniards, whose main interest was precious metals, discovered in 1544 rich silver deposits in a mountain at the foot of which they founded the settlement of Potosi at an altitude of 4,200 meters (13,800 feet) above sea level. By the end of the sixteenth century, Potosi had a population of 120,000, the largest urban center in South America. It held its position troughout the seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, when its population exceeded 160,000. Potosi was preceded by Chuqisaca, later renamed Sucre, which was founded in 1538 and later became the administrative capital of the Spanish colonial rule
Other Spanish settlements followed, including La Paz (1548), Cochabamba (1574), and Oruro (1604). Alto Peru (Upper Peru), as Bolivia was known during the period of Spanish rule, was at first a dependency of the Viceroyalty of Peru. In 1776 it was transferred to the newly formed Viceroyalty of La Plata.
This Andean country, with its capital city La Paz, is located in a narrow valley with picturesque topography. This is a city of contrast with a unique blend of civilizations.
The Tiwanacu ruins are the most mysterious of the hemisphere (3000 years old), and are known as the cradle of South American civilization. Copacabana is an important religious sanctuary where thousands of pilgrims visit the virgin of Copacabana, also known as the native Madona.
Located at the shores of Lake Titikaka, the highest navigable lake in the world, you will visit the Island of the Sun, the most enigmatic spot on the Lake, a must to any visitor. This is a source of magnetic energy, and the vertex of the earth that cradles the Inca Empire.

DAY 1: La Paz:
Upon arrival, transfer to the hotel to rest and acclimatize to the 3,800 meters altitude. In the afternoon we will have a half-day city tour, including a visits to see a typical craft market, the artisan and witchcraft markets. We'll also tour the colonial church of San Francisco, the main square, and the Presidential Palace. Overnight will be at a 4 star Hotel in La Paz.DAY 2:
Today, we tour the altiplano, visiting important villages rich in ancestral culture, the colonial churches, the Kalasaya architecture and semi subterranean temple. We will also visit the pyramid of Akapana, Pumapunku and the famous "Getaway of the Sun". Overnight at the same hotel. (B)DAY 3+4:
Early departure heading to the highest navigable lake in the world, having lunch in Copacabana. From here, we go to the Kusijata museum, where the Inca Baths are located. Later, we visit the ancient village of Sampaya, where you can see the old stone streets, water streams, stone houses, cultivated terraces and much more. Then, we move to the Island of the Moon, where the chosen women of the sun lived. We will also visit the Island of the Sun, where we spend the night in a rustic lodge. The following day, we return to La Paz, after visiting the church in Copacabana. (B+L)DAY 5:
