Description

The Ausangate Trek is regarded amoung the 10 best trekking trips in Peru , very representative of the high Andes ,you will have closed encounters with herds of Llamas and Alpacas and sites of the elusive Vicuña. Also this is the realm of the magnificent Condor , Andean Ibis , andean goose , and many others. We will trek close to colorful lakes and pristine glaciers at the end of the trip we will go though Vinicunca or Rainbow mountain, ending the trip at Cusipata River Lodge with an extra free day for rafting.
You do not have to be an athlete to do this trip but it will help to be in a good phisical condition and a couple days for acclimatization for the trek is advised since we will be trekking between 4,000 and 5,000 meters altitude , in case you need to we will have available saddle hourses

Detailed Itinerary

DAY 01: CUSCO, TINQUI, UPIS

We depart from Cusco early in the morning, drive to the head of the trail at the town of Tinki, 3,800 meters. Here we join our pack animals . Here we join our pack animals for a 5 hour trek to the hot springs of Upispampa, just below the Ausangate glacier and camp.(L+D).

DAY 02 UPIS – PUCACCOCHA

You ascend straight out of camp to the Arapa pass (4,800m/15,750ft). The colourful moon like rock formations form a stark contrast to the white snows of Ausangate. You descend in the afternoon past the spectacular Uchuy Pucacocha (little red lake) and its waterfalls before camping beside the waters of Pucacocha. .(B+L+D).

DAY 03: PUCACCOCHA - ANANTA

Today will wake up early for the ,breaksfast.Today is difficult day but short, we start with pucacocha pass (5051), a very colorful mountains which surround you. As well as we have spectacular view of mount ausangate and colorful glacier lakes then we will enter into the Red Mountain valley, an intact landscape with vivid colors all around, and llamas eating grass right close to you, as you approach to the campsite we have still wonderful view of rocky mountains and have delicious lunch and go to rest for the next big day. .(B+L+D).

DAY 04: ANANTA – VINICUNCA –Lactop- Cusipata

After breakfast, we take the trail to another mountain pass. Dropping down, we'll hike by Lake Kayrawiri, surrounded by rugged mountain peaks and the great valley below. Striations of color are imbedded in the hillsides. Then we go on to Cerro Laya Grande via massive glacier del Inca, and the most striking colors in the sediments of Vinicunca. When we finally reach the Rainbow Mountains (5,020 m / 16,466 ft.), you will have time to explore the area and take pictures. We will spend approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour (depend of your trekking speed and weather conditions).
After the amazing view of the landscapes on the top we are going to down to Llactop and to Cusipata or a last night at Cisipata River Lodge. (B_L_D)

Day 5: At no extra cost a free day for rafting on the Urubamba river , this is an optional trip.
