Description

Unique jungle expedition in the tropical rainforest in one of the remotest corners of Perú, at the Tambopata Candamo Natural Reserve, near the Bolivian and Brazilian border at the edge of the Amazon basin. This trip has all the ingredients of an epic and unforgettable journey. Our expedition starts in the town of Juliaca on the shores of Lake Titicaca , the highest navigable lake in the world at 15,480´. A vehicle will take us across the highland down to the cloud forest and to the end of the road, where we put-in. We will get into rafts and use the river as a highway into the jungle. From this point on , we leave behind the last sights of pioneers farmers and gold pan settlers; to enter the magic and mysterious world of the Amazon Rainforest. Floiting though different ecological niches, that provides the habitat for a diverse species of plant and animals,including 8 species of macaws, 13 species of monkeys, 530 species of birds, ocelot, jaguar, capybara, tapir, caiman, giant river otters, and many more.
We´ll be floating for 6 days, running Class III rapids. Later, we´ll arrive at the world renowed Macaw lick (see National Geographic; January 1994 ) where we will spend the night , allowing us to see these magnificent birds at dawn. Then we´ll take a motorized dug-out canoe to the frontier town of Puerto Maldonado ;where we spend the night and end our journey.
Afterwards we begin our return journey by a motorized dugout canoe, to the frontier town of Puerto Maldonado and then by airplane to Cusco.


Detailed Itinerary

Day 01: Juliaca.

Early morning meeting in the town of Juliaca , we board the Bus that will be taking us across the highlands and through a 15,000´ pass down to the jungle ,until we arrive at our put-in at the cloud forest. (B+L+D).

DAY 2 / 3: Tambopata River.

As we leave the last traces of civilization, we enter pristine rainforest using the river as a highway, we´ll float down river camping on sandy beaches along the way, where we will have a chance to see different flora and fauna (B+L+D).
The river will remain narrow and we will navigate class II and III rapids. We will begin to see a variety of different kinds of birds, a few mammals, in the afternoon we will arrive at our campsite to relax and enjoy a delicious dinner.(B+L+D)

Day 04:

Today the landscape begins to change little by little as the river narrows and the rapids increase in difficulty (class III and IV). We will continue seeing exotic native animals such as the Tapir , the Royal Condor , Spider monkeys , many birds , that live only in this altitudes. Camp at sandy beach(B+L+D)

DAY 5-6 :

Surrounded by lush vegetation , we´ll run class III and IV rapids and there is a good chances of running into more wild animals such as ,macaws capybara, giant river otters , maybe the elusive jaguar ,among other animals . (B+L+D)

DAY 7:

Early morning start to float down this calm waters and see the sun rise over the river having chances to spot more wildlife sleeping on its shores .
Later this afternoon we will arrive to camp at the Macaw lick , the largest in South America, where hundreds of blue and red, yellow and blue, ara arunas, and other parrots gather to feed on the clay . Its a show of sound and color presented by nature , something very special , a once in a life time experience , such as this river trip. (B+L+D)

DAY 8 : Rio Tambopata / Puerto Maldonado.

Early morning call to go and see the largest Macaw lick in South America, At the crack of dawn we will see a rowdy crowd of macaws with their variegated brilliance spattering the clay riverbank.Later a dug-out motor canoe will meet us to take us to the frontier town of Puerto Maldonado , to spend the night in a hotel. DAY 09: Cusco.

Early morning transfer from the Hotel to Puerto Maldonado aiport

Description

The Urubamba river runs from the high Andean ranges down through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, past Machupicchu and into the jungle. It has some exciting white water depending on the section of the river being done and the time of the year. One of our most popular Rafting sections during the season is the Chuquicahuana "Chuqui" class IIl sections on the Upper Urubamba river. There are good class III rapids and the water is not contaminated.



Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:

We pick you up at your hotel with our private transportation , after one and a half hours drive we arrive to the put -in at the shores of "Cusipata River Lodge " our private campground. Our professional Rafting Guides will give you a safety talk and provide you with all the proper equipment for Rafting. You would be floating for approximately two hours, running class II, introductory type rapids. As additional toys to play on this sections of the river you will have Hydrospeeds and Inflatable kayaks.
Afterwards, we arrive to the take out and drive to our lodge for lunch. Then as an option you can do Zip line across the river.
If you are staying a second day you will spent the night at “CUSIPATA RIVER LODGE” , where we have confortable doublé rooms with private bath, a sauna plus zip line, you will fall sleep under the whisper of the river

Day 2:

After a relaxing Sauna and a good night sleep, we get up for a healthy breakfast and drive up river to the Chuquicahuana “CHUQUI” section of the river, where we will be running class III, & IV+ rapids.
We will include some extra safety such as Kayaker or a Cataraf. After about 2 and a half hours, we arrive back to "Cusipata River Lodge ", where a delicious meal will be served. Afterwards we drive back to Cusco arriving in the late afternoon.
Note: if you are doing only one day rafting, or the combo with mountain biking, this is the section of the river that you will be rafting.

Description - Upper Section (Class III & IV)

The Apurimac river (Speaker of the Gods) in the native Inca Language, is the most direct source of the Amazon River, making it the longest river in the world. It has different sections , some of them are very good for rafting. This river rafting is rated among the 10 best rafting trips in the world. We start the trip in Cusco at 3,400 mts altitude and drive down to the canyon at 2200 meters. So the weather is much warmer .


Detailed Itinerary

Day 1:

We will pick you up at you hotel at 8:45 am A spectacular ride through grassy open sierra down into the Apurimac river canyon at 2,200 meters altitude, we put in at a sandy beach at "Rocoto". Our Swift water Rescue certify English speaking professional river guides will provide you with all the proper equipment and give you a safety talk. Once in the water we will enjoy class lll rapids , along the way we will encounter the bases of ancient inca bridges, and admire the beauty of the waterfalls.On the flat water section of this river , we will add some extra toys to play , such as inflatable kayaks (Duckys) and HydroSpeeds. (L+D)


DAY 2 THE BLACK CANYON APURIMAC RIVER:

Early morning weak up call for a fresh fruit salad breakfast with oats and yogurt , Coffee, Tea ,granola. A walk near the camp to admire the flora .We pack our gear and start the float, today we can run more class lll plus rapids and have time to explore a creak , then we pass this magnificent rock formations call the " Black Canyon",afterwards a tributary river the Santo Tomas brings more water into the river and we will encounter several class IV rapids. A very good healthy lunch will be served and later on the float we will see some hanging bridges, also there are some good chances of close encounters with the local fauna, such as the Torrent duck, foxes ,Andean gull , an the magnificent Condor. Cam o a Sandy beach underneath the stars of the Souther hemisphere. such as the Milky Way and the Souther Cross.(B+L+D).


DAY 3: WALPACHACA BRIDGE / CUSCO:

Another delicious breakfast and into the water day we have the most intense class IV rapids. Such as "Trinchera","El encuenro", "The other right" . We will have more time to explore the waterfalls and the creaks also time to play with the duckys and hydro Speed. Arrival at Puente Walpachaca around noon for a 4 hour drive back to Cusco.

DAY 1: CUSIPATA RIVER LODGE

We pick you up at your hotel with our private transportation , after one and a half hours drive we arrive to the put -in at the shores of "Cusipata River Lodge " our private campground. Our professional Rafting Guides will give you a safety talk and provide you with all the proper equipment for Rafting. Today we will run the river with inflatable kayaks and raft.
You will spent the night at “CUSIPATA RIVER LODGE” , where we have confortable double rooms with private bath, you will fall a sleep under the whisper of the river . As an option we have a sauna and a zip-line.


DAY 2: BIKING POMACANCHIS LAGOON

A morning drive to Pomacanchis Lagoon were will have a spectacular mountain biking tour , off the beaten path, which will take us to the so called 4 lagoons. We will provide you with good quality mountain bikes and you will ride around Lake Pomacanchis with magnificent views of the Lake . You will be biking for about 3 hours including a picnic stop maybe swim at the lake. Afterwards we drive back to our Lodge CUSIPATA RIVER.


DAY 3: SEE KAYAK & RAFTING:

Early in the morning breakfast, and we will transfer you to Pomacanchis lagoon located at 20 minutes driving from our Lodge.. Upon arrival to the lagoon, we will provide you with inflatable sea kayaks for two people, a paddle, a wet suit, a life vest , splash jacket, and a English speaking guide. No experience is necessary. After about t2 or 3 hours we drive down to the river to do another exciting section of rafting with class III plus rapids , we end up at our lodge where we have a lunch. Late afternoon drive back to Cusco arriving in the late afternoon.
